The Local Governing Body of Lorton School have the exciting opportunity to welcome one or more new staff members to our team as soon as possible in the autumn term, ideally from the beginning of October. We are looking to appoint to several posts, primarily as a part time Teaching Assistant, working mainly in Key Stage 2 but ideally to be combined with other posts as a Lunch Supervisor as well as newly created posts leading and supporting our new ‘extended day’ provision – offering both interest clubs and wrap around care; ideally we are looking for someone who can combine these posts to make sure we have familiar school staff in our Extended Day provision. We are seeking an Extended Day Play Practitioner to lead the club for two days a week and an assistant (to support the club leader) for 1 or 2 days, possibly more – this could be the same person for both. Both Extended day roles include working across the 4-11 age range. All roles are initially temporary for one year, but there is the possibility that they could become permanent.
Working hours would ideally be:
Teaching Assistant: daily 8:30-12:00 and 3 or 4 afternoons a week
Lunch Supervisor: 1.5 hours a week within 12-1pm
Extended day Play Practitioner: 2 days 3:10-5:10pm 4 hours per week (2 days)
Extended day Club Assistant Play Practitioner: Core hours: 3:10-5:10pm 2-4 hours per week (1 or 2 days)
The successful Teaching Assistant candidate will need to be:
• A qualified teaching assistant (ideally with level 3 qualification) with recent experience with pupils aged 7-11 years, including those with additional needs
• Calm and positive in managing pupils’ behaviour
• Dedicated to ensuring the well being and progress of all pupils
• Highly motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and caring; able to work as part of a strong team under the direction of the Key Stage 2 teaching staff
• Support our school values and the family ethos of our school.
The successful Extended day/lunch supervisor candidate(s) will:
• Be enthusiastic and caring with a keen interest in supporting children’s education and development;
• Show initiative and be able to create a stimulating, purposeful and caring environment and experiences at lunchtimes and/or in the interest club and wrap around care that interest and inspire all ages;
• Be able to organise, plan and lead/support activities with individuals, groups and the whole class;
• Have their own skills and interests to bring to the school;
• Be patient, energetic and enjoy having fun with the children;
• Support our school values and the family ethos of the school;
• Be well-organised, flexible and work well independently and as part of a team.
